Aftermarket Barrels

See Thread Sizes & Barrel Compatibility for the full spec — the short version is that the Ion uses the Ion thread (15/16"-12, originally named for the Impulse), shared with Impulse, Impulse 08, Nerve, Luxe, Shocker NXT, EOS, SP-1, SP-8, and Vibe. Any barrel or barrel back threaded for one of those fits an Ion, Ion 2.0, Ion XE, or Epiphany interchangeably.

Stock barrel

A one-piece, fixed-bore barrel on the Ion thread described above, bore size .689", sealed to the marker with an 18/70 o-ring — see Thread Sizes & Barrel Compatibility for the full o-ring table. This is the Ion 1.0/2.0/XE stock barrel specifically — the Epiphany ships with different stock equipment entirely, its own Freak-based barrel (see the Freak Barrel System entry below).

Aftermarket barrels

Two Piece Barrel Custom Products (CP) Two-piece Aluminum, well machined, honed, and anodized. Sold in 12", 14", 16", and 21" lengths with bore sizes from .682" to .696". Ion-thread is its own specific SKU — the same product line is also sold in Autococker and Spyder threads as separate parts. Confirmed as a live ANSgear preorder listing, "Usually Ships in 24 to 48 Hours" — a real, currently-sold option from a still-active maker.
Freak Barrel System GOG (originally Smart Parts) 3-piece, insert-based Originally a Smart Parts product, continued today under GOG branding — same lineage as the Firebolt bolt and 360° QEV. Buy a back, front, and insert separately (or as a kit): the back is what carries the thread, available in Ion/Impulse/Luxe/GOG or Autococker/Shocker Sport patterns, so it works across marker families by swapping only that one piece. Inserts (the actual bore) come in a wide range of sizes — roughly .679" to .695" in small increments — for true bore-matching to your paint. See the Freak XL entry below for the longer-insert version — a genuinely separate back and insert, not just a bigger insert dropped into this same back. Standard equipment on the Epiphany specifically — confirmed directly from a factory listing's own images and description, which calls out "the Epiphany version of the Freak barrel... with its own sculpted back section matching the smooth lines of the Epiphany body." Not just an aftermarket option there the way it is for Ion 1.0/2.0/XE.
Freak XL Barrel System GOG (originally Smart Parts) 3-piece, insert-based (8" insert) A genuinely separate system from the standard Freak above, not just a longer insert for the same back — retailer copy is explicit that the XL back "will only work with Freak XL inserts and Freak XL barrel tips, not the original shorter Freak inserts." The back is sold in GOG/Luxe/ION/Impulse threading specifically, same cross-marker-by-swapping-the-back approach as the standard Freak. Inserts run an 8" bore (vs. 6" on the standard Freak), in aerospace aluminum or stainless steel, across ten bore sizes from .675" to .695". Retailer copy claims roughly a 6 fps velocity gain over a standard Freak at the same bore — that's marketing copy, not independently verified. The Ion-threaded back was sold out at every retailer checked, so treat current availability as genuinely uncertain rather than confirmed either way.
Ceramic Barrel J&J Performance One-piece A long-running barrel maker (30+ years, now under Valken) offering their ceramic/Teflon-impregnated coating specifically in Ion threading, in multiple lengths. The coating is the whole pitch — reduced friction for a quieter shot and easier cleaning, on a fixed (non-interchangeable) bore rather than the Freak's swap-in-insert approach. A fresh check of the listing above shows it marked "BLOW OUT SALE... sold as is, no returns" — reads as clearance of remaining stock rather than confirmed ongoing production, so downgraded from good to unclear.
All American Smart Parts Two-piece (later also sold one-piece) A genuinely distinct Smart Parts line from the Freak above, though the two share front-piece compatibility — per zdspb's own barrel reference, the back "is compatible with all Freak and AA fronts." Bore is .693" specifically on Ion/Impulse/Shocker NXT threads, .689" on everything else — a real Ion-specific bore spec, not a generic catch-all. Went through multiple redesigns over its run (originally two-piece, later also sold as a simplified one-piece per ANSgear's own description) before being discontinued. ANSgear's Paintball Graveyard confirms no future stock there; the linked Armory Paintball listing is a real, currently-listed used back, not new production.
Progressive Smart Parts One-piece Spiral-ported, stiff-arbor-honed, with a ceramic/teflon coating — originally stock equipment on the Impulse, not the Ion, but sold directly in an "Impulse/Ion" thread-and-length option (14" or 16", dust black finish specifically for Ion/Tippmann models) per E-Paintball's own listing. That listing is a dormant-store reference, not confirmed current stock — no actively-selling retailer was found for this specific barrel. Fits the Ion the same way any Impulse-threaded barrel does: the Ion family's own "Ion thread" spec (see Thread Sizes & Barrel Compatibility) explicitly lists Impulse as cross-compatible, so this isn't a stretch fit.

Cocker-thread barrels don't fit — but adapters exist. Autococker-threaded barrels (a huge, separate aftermarket in their own right) are a different thread entirely. Lapco sells a Cocker-to-Ion adapter that lets you run one anyway, though stock on that specific part comes and goes.
