Aftermarket Bodies

"Body" on the Ion really means two things: the internal frame that holds the firing mechanism, and the exoskeleton — a removable outer shell, held on by a few screws, that's purely a cover. Everything on this page replaces the exoskeleton, not the internal frame. The two bodies covered on the model hub pages (Ion, Ion 2.0) are about that frame-level interchangeability — this page is about what goes over it. A good chunk of the list below traces back to zdspb's own documentation of the 2000s custom-Ion scene, plus a 2007–2008 community parts catalog on PbNation.

Stock body kit

Stock Ion grip panels and regulator cover

A composite polymer exoskeleton, sold new from Smart Parts (back when they were operating) in a dozen colors, paired with a matching reg cover and grip panels (shown alongside it above) as a full "body kit." Removing it is just a few screws — no different from installing any of the aftermarket options below.

Fusion Ion Body Kit Allen Paintball Products (APP) Aluminum All-aluminum body kit sold in Gold/Black, Blue/Black, and an Olive OD Green finished to actual mil-spec (Type III Class I). Came with an optional shoulder-stock variant — the same rare feature the Black Cell Ion Basic Body above has, making this the second shoulder-stock-capable body on this page. Confirmed via an eBay listing and search-indexed content from Allen Paintball Products' own site. A dedicated "Allen Products R.I.P" community thread confirms the company's site went dark and they stopped machining new stock.
Aluminum Body Kit ANS Aluminum 6 oz, fits any standard Ion. A real, still-listed product, but the retailer I checked had it as a preorder item rather than ready-to-ship stock — worth confirming lead time before ordering.
Ion Basic Body Black Cell (Special Ops Paintball) Nylon composite A milsim/woodsball-oriented body kit made from the same nylon plastic used in real firearms, adding the ability to mount a stock, sights, a flashlight, and other tactical accessories via optional weaver side rails. A distinctly different use case from every other body on this page — none of the rest support a shoulder stock. Special Ops Paintball is confirmed no longer actively producing new products — secondary/used market only now.
DTI3 Tactical DeadlyWind Aluminum A milsim/tactical-oriented body, nearly a foot long, with four integrated Picatinny rails, a dovetail, and a mount for a Tippmann M98-style shoulder stock — a Semi-BOB design, threaded for a feedneck. Marketed under DeadlyWind's "StinkOps" tactical sub-brand, alongside a later DTI4 revision — not a separate design of its own, so not broken out as its own entry. E-Paintball's own listing confirms it discontinued and out of stock.
Foehn V2.5 DeadlyWind Aluminum Per its own manufacturer copy in a 2007–2008 community parts catalog, this was the first-ever aftermarket Ion body shell — a Semi-BOB design (remove the back frame screw, then pull the back cap) whose back cap also supports a "True BOB" modification via a linked community thread. DeadlyWind's current Ion offering is a different, separately-listed product — see the Negative Body Shell entry below. Still listed on DeadlyWind's own site, which confirms directly: "They are all gone."
Isaria DeadlyWind Carbon fiber The only carbon-fiber body on this page — every other aftermarket option here is aluminum or composite. Per a 2007–2008 community parts catalog, no BOB feature. Documented on zdspb too; discontinued at every retailer checked, including E-Paintball's own listing (filed under Discontinued Items — a reference link, not confirmed current stock, since that store is dormant).
Negative Body Shell w/BOB DeadlyWind Aluminum DeadlyWind is still in business and currently lists this as their Ion body — a Semi-BOB design, same back-cap "True BOB" modification path as Foehn V2.5, per a 2007–2008 community parts catalog. Verified directly on DeadlyWind's own current site: "Negative body shell w/BOB™," genuinely purchasable there. E-Paintball carries the same item but files it under "Discontinued Items" — that's the dormant secondary listing, not the real source; the manufacturer's own site is what confirms this is actually current.
Kage Exoskeleton FBM Factory Aluminum Documented on zdspb with FBM's own promotional photo, but I couldn't find a current retailer listing either way — flagging rather than guessing at its status.
Flame Body Kit Gen X Global Composite A composite (not aluminum) body-and-grip kit from Gen X Global, using the same material as the stock body rather than an aluminum upgrade — a budget cosmetic swap rather than a performance/durability change. Sold in multiple colors per search-indexed retailer listings, but no page confirmed enough to link directly.
Star Body Kit Gen X Global Composite A second composite Gen X Global pattern, alongside the Flame Body Kit above — same material and purpose, a budget cosmetic swap rather than a performance upgrade. "Star" is the name found in retailer listings; "All Star," used in an earlier version of this entry, couldn't be confirmed anywhere.
Stage 5 / 5.1 Lucky Paintball Not specified The most frequently recommended aftermarket Ion body across years of community discussion — replaces the whole top of the marker (comes with feedneck and Stages 2/3 built in, plus laser eyes and the matching Lucky Stage 1 bolt), described as the best true BOB (bolt-out-back) system available at the time. The original Stage 5's maker site is confirmed closed; the revised 5.1 fixed a threading defect from a bad production batch, but current availability of either isn't independently confirmed.
Alien New Designz (NDZ) Aluminum One of four distinct milling patterns NDZ sold for the Ion (see also Vortex, Diamond, and Flame) — confirmed via zdspb and this listing's own variant options ("Black Alien," "Blue Alien" among them). Matching aluminum reg covers were also available. Same dormant-store reference caveat as the other NDZ entries on this page.
Diamond New Designz (NDZ) Aluminum One of four distinct milling patterns NDZ sold for the Ion (see also Vortex, Alien, and Flame) — confirmed via zdspb and this listing's own variant options ("Black Diamond" among them). Flame New Designz (NDZ) Aluminum One of four distinct milling patterns NDZ sold for the Ion (see also Vortex, Alien, and Diamond above) — lightweight custom 3D milling with cut-through details, a removable rear cap, and clearance to accept most MEV/QEV fittings without modifying the body. Vortex New Designz (NDZ) Aluminum One of four distinct milling patterns NDZ sold for the Ion (see also Alien, Diamond, and Flame below) — confirmed via zdspb and this listing's own variant options ("Silver Vortex" among them). Matching aluminum reg covers were also available. NDZ pivoted to firearms accessories after the paintball supplier base it sold into contracted sharply; this E-Paintball listing is a dormant-store reference, not confirmed current stock.
07 Ion Body Powerlyte Aluminum Mine — no current retailer listing or maker status turned up yet, so this is flagged rather than guessed at. Powerlyte also sold earlier '05 and '06 Ion bodies before this one, per a 2007–2008 community-compiled parts thread on PbNation — same aluminum construction, no BOB feature on either.
Aluminum Ion Body Punisherspb.com Aluminum Aluminum replacement body featuring Punishers' own skull-and-logo design. Punishers also made a grip frame and feedneck covered elsewhere on this site.
Ion Body Kit Redz Composite A full composite (not aluminum) kit bundling a body shell, a 45° grip, and a regulator sleeve/foregrip in one purchase — Redz' own description calls out hole-alignment complaints from some buyers and the lack of a BOB feature as known tradeoffs. Redz also made a feedneck and triggers covered elsewhere on this site; the company itself is treated as defunct there, and likely the same here, though not independently re-confirmed for this specific product.
Ion Body Kit Shocktech Aluminum Aircraft-aluminum, CNC-machined, with a quick-release back cap for one-screw bolt access and a pre-fitted hose/barb/o-ring set. ANSgear's own listing is filed in their "Paintball Graveyard" with a manufacturer-discontinued notice. Shocktech also sold a second, cheaper variant — the "SSC" — using machined reliefs instead of full cut-through windows for a similar look with less machine time and an easier-to-clean surface.
Ion Dynasty Gun Body Kit Smart Parts Alloy A genuine alloy-construction body from Smart Parts themselves, styled after the Dynasty tournament team's marker finish, sold in Dynasty Blue, Pewter, Black, and Silver with a matching grip and regulator guard — distinct from the standard composite "Ion Gun Body Kit" color-swap kit. No BOB feature. Discontinued along with the rest of Smart Parts' lineup — confirmed via E-Paintball's own listing, filed under Discontinued Items. E-Paintball is a dormant store, so this is a reference link, not confirmed current stock.
Ion Sleeper Body TechT Aluminum All-aluminum, tool-free bolt removal in under a minute, and ships with a set of spring-loaded ball detents plus a bottle of grease. TechT's own site lists it with an empty category, matching its discontinued status here. Fitment note worth flagging: works on original Ion, Epiphany, and SP-8 without modification, but Ion XE, SP-1, and EOS need an older-style breech component to fit — a good example of the 1.0/XE hardware split covered on the model hub pages.
08 Ion Sick Gun Body Kit Trinity Paintball Aluminum A distinct, richer product from the plain Sick body below — this is a full kit bundling the body with Trinity's own T-Lock feedneck, a cocker-threaded front body breech, and a rear locking donut, per a 2007–2008 community parts catalog. That combination is what makes it a genuine True BOB (bolt-out-back) design — unscrew the rear locking donut and the bolt comes straight out, no other disassembly needed — unlike the plain Sick body's Semi-BOB-at-best access. E-Paintball's own listing matches this product, filed under Discontinued Items (a reference link, not confirmed current stock). Same discontinued-company situation as the rest of Trinity's Ion lineup on this site.
Slim / Sick Trinity Paintball Aluminum Same discontinued-lineage story as Trinity's ASA and other Ion parts covered elsewhere on this site — the company itself appears to be gone. E-Paintball's own breadcrumb confirms it directly: "Home / Discontinued Items / Trinity Ion Sick Body Black." Only turns up as old retailer stock or secondhand now — that listing is a reference link, not confirmed current stock, since E-Paintball is a dormant store. No BOB feature on this plain body-only version, unlike the full "08 Ion Sick Gun Body Kit" above.
Aluminium X Body Kit / Z Body Kit Ultimate Fusion Designs (UFD) Aluminum Two distinct aluminum exoskeleton shapes from UFD (X and Z), both 3.6 oz direct replacements for the stock shell, no BOB feature. UFD also made feedneck and grip-frame products covered elsewhere on this site.
Ion SL Aluminum Body Kit Warrior Aluminum The one genuinely current, in-stock option in this category as of writing. 3.6 oz, sold in multiple colors, described by the maker as fitting "all Ion markers."

Also documented on zdspb, but not independently researched: Team Strange, Airsoldier (Type-2), Element Paintball (Aero), Circle Paintball, AIM Paintball (Electron), Sith Paintball (Sith Tactical). No current retailer listings turned up for any of these — likely defunct along with the rest of the era, but flagging rather than declaring them dead outright.
